Hello Fellow Democrats. I am so pleased to be serving as your newly elected Marathon County Democratic Party 1st Vice Chairperson. Today I’d like to talk with you about the presidential election ballot recount here in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Michael Haas reported the following on November 25th, 2016:
The Wisconsin Elections Commission received two recount petitions from the Jill Stein for President Campaign and from Rocky Roque De La Fuente. The Commission is preparing to move forward with a statewide recount of votes for President of the United States, as requested by these candidates.
The state is working under a federal deadline of December 13 to complete the recount. As a result, county boards of canvassers may need to work evenings and weekends to meet the deadlines. “The recount process is very detail-oriented, and this deadline will certainly challenge some counties to finish on time,” Haas said.
According to the Green Party campaign manager, Michael White there was a very large discrepancy between exit poll data and the reported vote tallies leading to a need for a recount. These discrepancies were by locale and by voting mechanism and so with the well documented reports of hacking attempts made on voting machines and software there is even more reason to pursue this recount.
It’s important for all of us to be clear on one thing. The only reason for this recount petition is to verify and validate that we have an open, free, and fair election process.
Recounting votes is an open, transparent process in which each of the candidates may have representatives present to raise objections, and where the public may be present to observe.
